is it true that If I buy a general admission ticket to a concert at the observatory, it's not guaranteed that i'll get in (first come, first serve)? if so, how early should i get there before the show to guarantee that i will get in (if i print my $40 ticket before hand).

Not sure what type of concert you are going to but I always went in on time, early to wait in line, and late by 15 mins. In the end I did not have any problem with them reaching capacity and not letting me in; so it just depends on what concert you are going to. It is first come first serve mainly because they do not have seating only standing and of course the reserved area has seating though. Well I would say don't over think it and go early if you want to stand next to the stage and good parking otherwise you will be parking far and have to walk far. Have fun!
