The Clemson football team got the no-doubt result it was hoping for on Saturday afternoon, cruising past FCS opponent The Citadel, 51-14, with little resistance at Memorial Stadium during a senior day game that finished under the lights.

The Clemson Tigers have done all they can do. Now, it’s time to sit and wait. The Tigers’ last-minute victory over Pitt on Saturday secured their ACC record.

The Citadel’s $475,000 is in line with what Clemson’s paid to other in-state FCS programs for making the trip to Death Valley. Greenville-based Furman got $415,000 for a 2022 visit, and Charleston Southern was paid $400,000 for a game last year, The State previously reported.

During halftime of Saturday’s football game between Clemson and The Citadel, the head referee approached Bulldogs coach Maurice Drayton and made him an offer. Clemson was leading The Citadel 35-0 at Memorial Stadium, and there was an option to shorten the game by cutting the remaining two quarters to 10 minutes.
