Just before 4 p.m., officers responded to a ShotSpotter alert in the 6800 block of S. Corbell Ave. Police say that moments earlier, a 43-year-old woman inside a residence was shot and killed by the 17-year-old.

A woman was shot and critically wounded in the South Shore neighborhood Thursday afternoon. Around 4 p.m., the woman was shot at 6826 S. Cornell Ave., just south of Jackson Park. She was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.
