Trump was playing golf near his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida just before 2 p.m. Sunday when a Secret Service agent saw a rifle with a scope in the bushes outside the course, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said. Secret Service agents fired on the man, who did not return fire before he fled in a black Nissan, officials said.
Routh, who is suspected of attempting to assassinate Donald Trump, had a criminal record and erratic political views.
