Fresh off of fending of an activist investor and calls for his job, Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan denied that hedge fund Elliott Investment

Southwest Airlines Co. expects the strike by Boeing Co. workers and a lengthy push to boost production to once again limit the number of aircraft it receives next year.

Southwest Airlines Co. (NYSE:LUV) will offer buyouts to workers at 18 airports across the country as the Dallas-based carrier cuts back on flying planes due to in part to aircraft delivery delays from Boeing (BA).

The offers will be extended to customer service, ramp and operations agents, as well as cargo employees and supervisors.

Southwest Airlines is offering buyouts and extended leaves of absence to airport workers to avoid “overstaffing” which it blames on Boeing.
