Companies that get federal grants or loans usually sign a legally binding agreement and depend on getting reimbursed. The new administration has upended that expectation.

Despite recent court rulings calling for an end to the Trump administration’s sweeping pause on federal grants, numerous recipients are not getting their promised cash from the government. The administration is still not forking over money for congressionally funded programs ranging from electric vehicle charging to abandoned mine cleanup to wildfire mitigation.

The order allowing funds to flow again applies to existing contracts before Trump issued his Executive Order declaring a freeze on foreign assistance.
