The chief refereeing officer of the Premier League, Howard Webb, has admitted that West Ham United were wrongly awarded a penalty by the Video Assistant Referee, VAR, in their 2-1 win at home to Manchester United.

Referees' chief Howard Webb says West Ham should not have been awarded a penalty during Erik ten Hag's final game in charge of Manchester United on 27 October. The Hammers were given the decision on the recommendation of video assistant referee Michael Oliver following Matthijs de Ligt's challenge on Danny Ings.

Howard Webb, the chief refereeing officer of the Premier League, admitted that West Ham United were wrongly awarded a penalty through VAR which gave them a 2-1 win at home to Manchester United that led to the firing of manager Erik ten Hag.

Howard Webb does not think VAR Michael Oliver should have recommended a review of an incident that contributed towards Man Utd sacking Erik ten Hag.
