Amazon is doubling its investment in Anthropic. The e-commerce giant will provide Anthropic with an additional $4 billion in funding on top of the $4 billion it committed last year. Although Amazon remains a minority investor,

Anthropic named Amazon Web Services as its primary training partner, in addition to continuing to be its primary cloud provider.

It was only back in March that Amazon finished shoveling $4 billion into Anthropic, maker of the Claude family of generative models. Now comes word of another $4 billion, bringing the e-commerce and cloud giant's total investment to – check the math – $8 billion.

Amazon.com plans to double its investment in artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic to $8 billion. Despite the increased funding, Amazon will remain a minority investor, Anthropic stated in a blog post on Friday.

AI business Anthropic, which was created by former OpenAI research leaders, has received an extra $4 billion investment from Amazon.

Amazon, which is Anthropic's primary cloud partner, is fiercely competing with Microsoft and Alphabet's Google to offer AI-powered tools for its cloud customers.
