Wildfires in Los Angeles, California, destroy thousands of homes, while the death toll rises to 10, reports Reuters. Five wildfires have been burning for the third consecutive night, fueled by dry desert winds.

The first sign of worry for many was thick smoke blowing down from the hills of the affluent Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles, which borders Santa Monica and the famous Malibu coast. LA residents are accustomed to wildfires but the Palisades fire spread rapidly out of control.

Wildfires have caused destruction and chaos in Los Angeles since Tuesday morning with five people confirmed dead thus far. Wildfires broke out at 10:30am local time on Tuesday morning in one of the city’s residential districts.
