A federal appeals court ruled Thursday that the Justice Department can release a report from special counsel Jack Smith about his investigations into President-elect Donald Trump. But it left in place a temporary order blocking the report’s release,

Barbara McQuade, who served as a US attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, told Salon that “Donald Trump is clearly trying to run out the clock until he is sworn in on Jan. 20,” adding: “Once he gains control of DOJ, he can try to kill the report.”

At least half of the final report could be made public within days, unless Trump gets the Supreme Court to block it.
