Coach Dan Campbell has been looking to fill both of his coordinator openings following the departures of Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn to the Chicago Bears and New York Jets, respectively, as their new head coaches. Detroit is set to promote linebackers coach Kelvin Sheppard to defensive coordinator, a team source told The Athletic last week.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Friday, citing sources, that the Chicago Bears are working toward a deal to make Randle El, the Detroit Lions' former wide receivers coach, their new assistant head coach and receivers coach.

Between them, Ben Johnson and Declan Doyle aren't as old as Pete Carroll. But Johnson identified the 28-year-old Doyle as the guy he wants supervising the Bears' offense.
