The U.S. Justice Department sued the state of Maine two months ago, claiming its treatment of kids with behavioral health issues violated the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Officials with the U.S. Department of Justice and the state of Maine say they have entered into a settlement that requires the state to increase community-based behavioral health services for children

The Justice Department says they sued Maine in September, following an investigation and a public letter of findings notifying Maine of the violation. The lawsuit alleged that Maine limited families’ access to behavioral health services for their children to live in the community.
