Grayson Lake is a 1,500-acre (6.1 km 2) reservoir in Carter and Elliott counties in Kentucky. It was created by the United States Army Corps of Engineers in 1968 by impounding the Little Sandy River [3] with the Grayson Dam, an earthen structure 120 feet (37 m) high, creating a maximum capacity of 118,990 acre-feet (146,770,000 m 3).

Sep 4, 2022 · On the west side of the dam on KY-7 is a small tower, spillway, and trail. We popped in to checkout the tower and spillway and while the view from the tower is less than pristine, it does provide excellent birdwatching.

Directions: Take Exit 172 (Grayson Route 7) off of I-64. Travel Route 7 South 8 miles to Grayson Dam. Factoid: Scenic sandstone rock cliffs rim the lake's 40 miles of shoreline. Hike the many trails and enjoy the wildlife viewing area at the Damsite Recreation Area.
